Chapter 6

Angel: MC Life

At first, Animal's quick agreement to my suggestion surprised me. I didn’t think I’d fit in here; I'd made the mistake of too many quick judgments, and now had to eat my words at how nice I found this all to be.

After Animal left, saying he had something to do, I looked over at Liberty, my newfound friend.

“Animal’s one hell of a guy isn’t he?” she asked knowingly.

I blushed. “Yeah, he is. And you seem familiar. Have we met before?”

“I go to the college now. I feel like we’ve seen each other, too. Maybe on campus?”

I don’t know why, but I felt like I’d met this woman through Marsha before. It didn’t hurt to ask her, right?

“By the way, do you know someone named Marsha Blackburn?” I asked her.

Her eyes widened. “You mean Party Marsha? Oh yeah, I know her! I was friends with her before I got together with my shitty ex. She and I go way back.”

Soon, we were talking a bit more, losing track of the time. We talked first about Marsha, and eventually about the MC.

“The guys here are amazing. I really do appreciate all that they’ve done. Apollo, he’s one hell of a guy. Zara is blind, but she does the sewing and makes things, and he supports her through all of it. I’m glad to have Chase too, even though he’s always a bit distracted,” Liberty said, grinning a little at the mention of her boyfriend.

As we spent more time together, I realized that I was opening up, too. I almost never did this whole conversation shit with people, but when I talked to Liberty, it felt right. It felt good, and I wanted to talk more and more.

I spent the duration of the weekend there getting to know a few of the guys. The one they called the General was always a bit aloof, which I guess was his personality, but everyone else was pretty damn cool.

When I talked to Liberty, I felt like I was talking to a best friend. Marsha was technically mine, but she always wasn’t the easiest to talk to, as she tended to redirect all conversation back to herself. But Liberty seemed to get it, and I spent some quality with Animal, getting to know him a bit better.

Even though he would tell me everything and anything, he always seemed a little bit closed off about something. I wasn’t sure, but every time we even tried to mention a bit about our pasts, he would turn away, saying that he didn’t want to talk about it.

He was always hiding that part of him, and I don’t know, it just made me wonder if there was anything I could do. When the subject came up, there was this wall there, the tension about what may happen next. Maybe he worried I'd judge him; I didn’t know, but I definitely felt like we both had our stories. I knew I certainly did.

During a conversation with Liberty, we discussed Animal, and she asked me about my plans and even about my future with him.
